Travel for the sake of travel...

Welcome to Just Because Travels!

Dedicated to those that travel, well, just because!

As someone who likes to refer to themselves as an “avid traveler”, I have an advantage that most people don’t.  I live in one of the world’s most visited places – New York City.  I wasn’t born here or raised here, but I’ve been here long enough to be considered, at the very least, a […]

The moment I set foot on the sun-drenched streets of Lisbon, Portugal, I knew I was embarking on an adventure that would forever be etched in my memory. The city greeted me with open arms, its vibrant energy and rich history promising an unforgettable experience.  Wandering through the labyrinthine alleys of Alfama, the oldest district […]

Next Up? Returning to Huck’s in Costa Rica

So I have a trip planned to Costa Rica at the end of January 2024. Every year for the last several years (minus the COVID years) I rent out a villa someplace warm for me and my closest friends. Earlier this year it was Panama, which was fun, but a couple of years ago we […]

So… I have just returned from a 4-day Caribbean cruise onboard the Royal Caribbean Mariner of the Seas. I will have more information about the ship, dining, nightlife, and each of the ports that we visited. I’m ten days away from getting out of town for a few days, heading to Florida to board a Royal Caribbean ship to celebrate my friend Jaime’s 40th birthday. 40’s a big year, and I think that cruising is a great way to kick off a birthday month! It’s basically like staying at an all-inclusive […]

About Me

Well, a little bit about me I guess.

Growing up in the Midwest (Michigan specifically), I left home at a relatively early age and joined the US Navy. This is certainly where my wanderlust became undeniable – I’ve been fortunate enough to travel a lot in my not-quite youth. Two tours through the Med and the Persian Gulf later and I am hooked on new places, people, and cultures.

I’ve lived all over the country, and spent a little bit of time living in Portugal, so I’ve got a lot of experiences that I love to share. An IT consultant by trade, I tend to work to live, rather than live to work. My biggest hobby is hopping on a plane, train, or automobile and seeing someplace new or revisiting an old favorite destination.

I am always wondering where I will end up next!
